AVG VPN offers a wide range of features for a reasonable price. It doesn’t keep any records of its activities however, it uses the OpenVPN protocol to protect users. It allows unblocking of Netflix US, BBC iPlayer and Hulu. It also offers about eight P2P servers for torrenting. Its software is easy to use and has a clutter-free interface. You can set it to automatically connect to the VPN when you connect to a wi-fi connection or manually select which networks it will connect to. To do this, simply open the Network Security menu in the app, and then click on the Edit Networks button. You can select which wi-fi networks the VPN should connect to and also deactivate or allow its automatic connection upon start-up.
Unfortunately, AVG Secure VPN has several major flaws that prevent it from being one of the top choices on the market. Firstly, its server network is relatively small. In our tests, we were being able to stream Netflix on four out of five streaming servers. Furthermore, some of its servers were blocked by Netflix for reasons that are not clear.
Another problem is that AVG Secure VPN doesn’t have monthly pricing plans, but only annual subscriptions. This makes it more expensive than its competitors, which offer cheaper monthly subscriptions. Its customer support channels are too limited and not helpful. We suggest looking at other options such as Surfshark ExpressVPN or NordVPN.
